Today's loot from the farmer's market. I had no idea how many types of squash there are until today. I saw tons of French varieties, heirlooms and look forward to trying out a whole new world of flavors. Here are the few I picked up...
- Dark Green : Buttercup squash
- Orange : Kabocha squash ( it grows in a green shade too)
- Beige : Butternut squash

ReplyDeleteButternut! I love it with sage in lasagna or ravioli and with black beans in a taco. Or just roasted with olive oil and salt. Delicious.

ReplyDeleteMy husband just made the most delicious acorn squash pie from our CSA. It tasted like pumpkin pie but was better...i definitely advise trying it!
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of squash! One of my favorites is oh-so-simple but such a favorite for fall - acorn squash baked with a pat of butter and sprinkle of brown sugar...mmm so good! I just made a Jamaican pumpkin soup over the weekend that had pumpkin and butternut squash that was awesome! You can't go wrong with squash ;) Enjoy!

For decoration, I love turban squashes. They're so cool looking and each one is unique!
ReplyDeletemy boy friend is an organic veggie farmer and this year he introduced me to Delicata squash! you slice it in to rings and scoop out the seeds. bake the rings with a drizzle of olive oil and a dash of salt- it is like candy!
