I am sad to see one of the cities on my top five "must travel to soon list" under water. I guess it has been the worst flood in 20+ years. Ah... Venice... I hope you dry up soon. See more surreal photos here. (via v.)
that is so crazy! and ljt, the shops actually *don't* keep water out -- some of the photos in the boston globe show the shopkeeper sitting on tables so their feet don't get wet!
Those pictures are incredible! I hope it is not a sign of things to come. The city still looks beautiful even under these terrible circumstances. Wishing them much sunshine to dry their homes & shops, & historical buildings!
I went to school in Amsterdam with the girl in the top photo! She was visiting Venice during the flood and her picture was snapped. I hope some of the governments plans will be able to save this beautiful city from sinking.

ReplyDeleteoh no, this is too sad. I spent the summer in Italy two years ago and Venice quickly became my favorite city. I hope everyone is coping well...
