I am a map girl
I would love to do this on my current or future stairway. Now . . . to find cool vintage french maps like that may be a challenge.

I'm a map girl too! I love finding a vintage atlas at a second book store and love Cavallini's beautiful vintage maps wall calender- printed on beautiful heavy cream paper and perfect for framing
We're going to check out the Field's Maps exhibit. I heard it's awesome.

Martha Stewart did an article featuring maps and displaying them in her June 2007 issue.
If interested, check out the article on her web site by doing a search on 'maps'.
You can also find reproductions sold as wrapping paper in nice paper stores. I bought a few last year and they are lovely especially if you frame them.
Such a wonderful idea! I've been hoping to do something like this for a while, but I've been too lazy (and broke) to take the time to track down some worthy maps.
I'm inspired to do so now! Thanks for sharing.
yep, cavallini's maps...sold at paper source...are fantastic.
If you go to Paris, there are a few merchants at the Paul Bert / Brion flea markets who sell photos, prints and ephemera. I found an old bicycle-touring map of Toulouse that had been mounted onto muslin (after much use) and it's just an amazing old faded sepia-toned little treasure. Anyway, if you go there, look for them... if you can't wait, I bet you could check out french Ebay, etc for old maps and find a real treasure for just a few euros.
I am a map and globe freak, so your post made me really happy to know there are others out there. :)
Oh me too! I love this image, I always want to buy the maps I see, but I just don't think I have enough room for the, but I always imagine my children's room to be filled with maps, huge ones and cool ones and all sorts of them.
