Cool Libraries

REAL GABINETE PORTUGUES DE LEITURA RIO DE JANEIRO

RIJKMUSEUM AMSTERDAM

I am blown away by how many incredibly cool libraries there are out there in the world. These photographs by Candida Hofer are quite gorgeous, and puts my local run-down biblio to shame. (via the nonist where you can see more) If you didn't get enough to look at from those two sites, Candida has a book about all the library interiors she photographed which you can find here, more of her books here too.

Love these! This will sound ridiculous but they remind me of Ghostbusters for some reason.

You should check out the Seattle Central Library, designed by Koolhaus (did the Louvre pyramind in Paris).

Sorry to have to correct the person above, but the Louvre pyramids were by I.M. Pei. Koolhaus' library in Seattle is quite spectacular, my fiance and I visited there last summer (I'm an architecture graduate, so I dragged him along, but he enjoyed it as well!).
In terms of more modern libraries, there's also the Exeter Library by Louis Kahn.
