Help, I'm Alive
Emily Haines from Metric opens up about her creative vulnerability and becoming artistically paralyzed (something I can relate to) in this honest and genuine video clip. I am excited to hear the sounds of Metric's new record. Here is a sound bite to preview. (via Stereogum)
When I am feeling blue, or need some fresh inspiration and upliftment, along with my camera and sketchbook I take some alone time and get back into nature, or explore someplace I've never been. I take photographs of the details around me and write thoughts and feelings in my book. This exercise helps refresh me, as a creative person as well as a mother. It is fascinating to go back and read previous entries. Do you ever feel paralyzed creatively or even as a parent? What helps you feel alive?

lovely! these are definitely inspirational.
thats a good question... I like to get lost in a good book, some how this takes me away and when I return things feel refreshed.
My kids help me feel alive, I ask myself, "What really matters?" I use my camera to hide behind but it lets me see true beauty without being afraid.
oh so perfect to see a post like this
very inspirational.
grazie mille
Rachel. I love this! Thanks!
That was an amazing video. Thanks for posting.
Oh, I get artist's block all the time. A friend just recommended The Artist's Way by Julie Cameron and I'm hoping it will help!
Man, sometimes I feel so dried up that I can't think of anything anymore. I just turn away, take a bath or a shower and go to sleep, a few hours or even a few days later, it all comes back in a flash.
Those pictures are definitely inspirational... I do the same...
I find going for walks or hikes, with some good music on my mp3 player (like Emily Haines & Metric - LOVE them and can't wait for the new Metric album!) helps clear & open my mind, when I am feeling creatively-challenged.
I also find writing in my journal and/or taking pictures of my surroundings help also :)
amazing pictures, love those grey boot!!!
i actually feel creatively paralyzed right now. usually i get that feeling in the summer months and then i feel super creative in the autumn/winter.
when i'm feeling this way i like to read one of my favorite books.
