I am sad to see one of the cities on my top five "must travel to soon list" under water. I guess it has been the worst flood in 20+ years. Ah... Venice... I hope you dry up soon. See more surreal photos here. (via v.)
that is so crazy! and ljt, the shops actually *don't* keep water out -- some of the photos in the boston globe show the shopkeeper sitting on tables so their feet don't get wet!
Those pictures are incredible! I hope it is not a sign of things to come. The city still looks beautiful even under these terrible circumstances. Wishing them much sunshine to dry their homes & shops, & historical buildings!
I went to school in Amsterdam with the girl in the top photo! She was visiting Venice during the flood and her picture was snapped. I hope some of the governments plans will be able to save this beautiful city from sinking.

and to think I was standing right there only 3 months ago. I wonder how the shops keep the water out.

Venice! I've been there 5 times - can't get enough of it - it's a real shame nothing is being done to stop the water rising/city sinking.
Great piccies though!
Oh dear : / I do hope it doesn't sink before I can visit.
Not a good city for shoe lovers, that's for sure.
There is something so strange and fascinating about seeing photos of cities under water. Sad sad sad.
Hard to believe, isn't it?!
that is crazy and sad. I have been there and I loved the experience but I'm not sure I would go back!
