Harry Potter redesign concept

Harry Potter redesign concept

Maybe if the Harry Potter books looked like this, I would read them. Cool concept design by M.S. Corley, who is also making prints out of these. (I know, I know don't judge a book by its cover, but the designer part of me always evaluates cover design first.) Now ... someone go conceptualize those much needed vampire book covers that I haven't read either. Am I the only one who hasn't read either of these series?

To Clarify: I read lots of books with ugly covers, I am just charmed when the actual 'cover' appeals to me. As for Potter and vampires, I've never been much of a fantasy genre reader, or is that what they are classified as?

Cool, I too judge books by their covers very much too often, but hey who doesn't want the books you read to look great on the shelf? :)

No, you are not the only one who hasn't read either of these series?
But it is not because I don't like the covers. I do like your covers though :)

The vampire books are only good if you are a 13 year old girl, but Harry Potter, no matter the cover, can't be missed!!!

yeah, i have to admit, that i'm a fan of harry potter...but won't go near the other series. these covers would make me feel a bit more respectable carrying them around town:)

p.s. - they remind me of a series by another illustrator who recently redesigned 80s movies into saul- bass-style movie novela covers. i posted about it on my blog a while back:

well, I liked both, and so did your husband :-) and neither of us are 13 year old girls. I think you should give them both a shot. They aren't world wide best sellers for nothing. Books that suck just aren't that popular. But I like your covers way better.

No, you're not the only one who hasn't read these. I'm just not into fantasy so doubt I ever will! :)

this is funny because the reason i never picked up the vampire series was the ugly cover! i am partial to these harry potters though.

You really should read Harry Potter. I love Twilight too, but It's not for everyone. Harry Potter, however, is. READ THEM.

i do like these, he mentions on his site that they are inspired by something that olly moss is doing, redoing video games and movies penguin style. If you like this you should check out all of Olly's stuff, its really great!

I've read them both & loved them both. But I second that they aren't for everyone.

Never hurts to give anytime at least a try, right? Can't really knock it till you try it, eh?

no, you're not the only one. i haven't read them either. i refuse to read twilight...

I haven't read the vampire books, either, and I don't plan to. I did read all the Harry Potter books, though, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but the cover artwork did leave something to be desired. These are very interesting.

I would classify them as AWESOME. And not just because I'm a geeky librarian.

I say even if you're not into fantasy, you should at the very least give Harry Potter a try. More than just a fun story, J.K. Rowling is a GENIUS author. Those books will be classics forever, not just because of their popularity, but because that chick knows what she's doing. Her writing style is amazing, and she makes no mistakes. She knew where those books were going from page one. She's brilliant.

you must read harry potter. plow through the first one. She is brilliant, i agree with the others. they are classics. vampires was so fun although nothing on potter. don't be a book snob, just do it! its like our generations culture!

You're not alone. I read about a page of the first Harry Potter when it was brand new and could not stomach going any further. I don't even want to know what I'm missing when it comes to Twilight.

i love these covers!!!

HP is brilliant if you love fantasy. JK is a very talented writer and knows how to develop characters and very unexpected plotlines.

Twilight is for falling in love again. And no, it's not just for 13 year olds. I actually think that their covers are graphically interesting, but could be more "romantic" in nature to reflect the content.

I really love these Saul Bass inspired covers! I've read the series, and think that there is definitely a literary connection between J.K. Rowling and Alfred Hitchcock...

So I read comments like these about the HP books and think maybe a should give them a try again. I just couldn't get into it. I do agree that if those were the real covers they would have appealed more to me the first time around.

Kinda like I won't buy coffee at Coffee Bean because I hate all that oak and brass in their stores. And their coffee just isn't that good.

I haven't read them either. However, I would read them if they had these redesigned covers.
