First Harvest : Radishes

Look what we plucked from the garden yesterday, nature sure knows how to pick the right color combos, aren't they pretty? I wish I loved the taste of them better, do you like radishes? Grown from the seed, they are the fastest and easiest little things we've ever grown.

oh they are so lovely. I don't LOVE them...but if you slice them super thin and eat atop a little slice of baquette with some good butter and sea salt a la orangette, they are pretty divine!

happy weekend

I'm so excited our garden is growing. I don't really like radishes either but they were definitely fun to grow!

I didn't used to like them either, but then I discovered that as long as they're paired with a fat, their intensity is tamed they're delicious. Hence, per a previous comment, the classic french combo on a baguette with butter and salt. Avocado works wonders with radishes. Thinly sliced and tossed in a salad with a mild goat cheese, they set off the creaminess of the cheese nicely. And roasted simply with olive oil or butter, and salt and pepper, their flavor mellows out and sweetens.

They look so beautiful and what a joy it must be to hold self grown radishes in your hands. I wish I had a garden to try to grow my own vegetables!

radishes are a recently aquired taste of my husband & I... we eat them raw, cut into quarters with a good sea salt; usually with lunch or breakfast. We're growing them in our window box garden this year although I'm sure we'll have to supplement with the farmers market to keep up with our appetite for them.

There's always something new in the garden! We posted the same thing a bit ago; They were our first harvest (We're on the southside of Hampton Roads in Va). We just started getting Squash and Cucumbers in this week. Always exciting. I didn't know radishes paired well with fats; I can't wait to try it!
