Babylonstoren

For the past several weeks when my mind escapes to wanderlust mode, it envisions traveling to this jaw-dropping beautiful historic Dutch farm/hotel called Babylonstoren near Cape Town. I love the idea of going to stay on a beautiful farm with a restaurant serving up the bounteous harvest. Definitely added to my travel wish list. Dreamy isn't it?!

Oh!! I think this was featured in World of Interiors a couple of years ago, as a private residence and not a hotel. I was really struck by the breathtakingly simple and elegant approach to the design...you could tell that the person who owns the property (an ex Vogue editor, maybe?) really understood how to take advantage of the amazing bones of the 18th century structure without overwhelming the space.

It's funny that Babylon is part of the name... Maybe it's not the same meaning in dutch. My brother's LDS mission was in Cape Town and he has amazing pictures. It looks like a magical place.

It is even better in real life! The food is AMAZING. You can have a stroll through the herb/veggie garden.(not quite like anything you have seen before.)

Quite beautiful and so neat for a farm, I love the different building styles from USA farms.

Cape Town and the surrounding area are fabulous to visit - I recently started a series on my blog about visiting SA, and the first place is Kalkbay, which is near Cape Town.

We do have some beautiful design in SA!
