Oh Barcelona kills me. Rod and I went there 2 years ago, before we became parents. We were trying to figure out how to live there for a few months after we got back. Not too easy. That city is so chic and artsy and cosmopolitan + amazing weather. Maybe retirement. lol

Barcelona is tied with Paris as my favorite city. Some of my favorite things to do there: visiting the Museo Picasso, getting lost in the streets of the Barrio Gótico, the view from the Sagrada Familia, strolling along the chic shops on the Paseo de Grácia, admiring the beautiful apartments in the Eixample, dining at the 4 Gats (it's touristy, but fun), and watching the the late night fountain show at the Plaza de Catalunya. Great city!

absolutely Sagrada Familia, Museo Miro, the Gothic quarter, Casa Batlo and Parc Guell. went there the summer of the Olympics--1992 and it is the most amazing city. can't wait to return-ENJOY!!!

This post made me happy and nostalgic! Good city pick. Been to Barcelona 3 times, each with different sets of people, and every time it's been amazing to me. I definitely agree with the suggestions of La Sagrada Familia and Barri Gotic along with your choices, plus getting in some beach time a little outside of Barca. My favorite restaurant was Lonja de Tapas near the Museu Picasso in the Born District... so delicious!

I don't know what shouldn't be missed, but I do know this post is inspiring serious wanderlust :)

LOVE Barcelona! Luckily it's only a couple of hours away from me- it makes it easier to think I will go back! Love the markets and all the Gaudi. I am trying to convince my parents to visit their too.

Barcelona is one of my favorite cities, and I'm lucky to be able to visit, because my sister lives there! lucky girl. One day? Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, lunch on the beach (get some good patatas bravas, seafood, and a cana). Museu Picasso is great. The gothic quarter is very cool. Even shopping is fun here, and I'm not a shopper. Beautiful Spain!

I'm from Barcelona, so I could highly recommend Born district for sure, Café de L'Academia for a super delightful dinner, OMM bar for a great gin tonic and Wet Bar at W Hotel for the best and coolest top roof in town ;)
Enjoy!! xxx

i can't thank you enough! my husband and i are planning a 10 year anniversary trip there this fall and we never get away, so this is a big one. i had it on my to do list to make reservations in barcelona this week. i did further research on the market hotel and it's not only beautiful, design oriented, it's considered a bargain in barcelona so we booked 3 nights in october. if i wouldn't have read your blog, i would not have known about it. you rock!!

Loved this post! My husband and I stayed at the Market Hotel you have listed. I highly recommend the restaurant there as well. Great, well, priced food. The only thing you missed off the list was shopping! Vinçon is fantastic for design wares!

I've just been there less than a month ago and had an amazing time! Apart from the obvious (everything Gaudi is really worth seeing) you need to go to Costura to check or buy some of their cute fabrics and chat to the lovely shop owners (http://www.costuratienda.com/), then head to Dudua (http://www.duduadudua.com/) and end the day by getting yourself some espadrilles at la Manual Alpargatera (http://www.lamanual.net/), I got a great wedge pair for only 16£.
Good hindu vegetarian restaurant is Govinda (http://www.amalteaygovinda.com/) and you should also go up the Montjuic especially to watch the sunset! xxx HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!

only one day in barcelona? i'd say don't waste it lining up for touristy stuff! spend it absorbing the vibe - get into la boqueria, the local market. spend some time on the beach, bring some tapas and tinto de verano in parc guell then head into el born for tapas. oh i miss barcelona!

Just returned from a trip to Barcelona. Favorite favorite was La Manual Alpargatera for espadrilles! If possible, take a day trip to Costa Brava for the beautiful beach! Never saw anything like this! Best restaurant we ate at was Els Pescadors and enjoyed Dry Martini for delicious Gin & Tonics!
