Chalkboard fantasies
Chalkboard paint seems to be where it's at right now. I was contemplating doing a wall in my home, but then I thought... chalk dust! Do I really want to be cleaning that up all the time? Anyone have chalkboard fantasies like me, or have a place with one in their home? You can do anything from...

I have been thinking about the same thing! I saw someone do it to cover cheep kitchen cabinets in Dwell mag. I like the idea of one chair or (I love that wall in the living room too) but I think it looks trite when people put it in their kitchens on the wall and uses it to write fake menus like French restaurants.
great idea none the less
I heard of a mom with several small children painting the inside of a cabinet or two with chalkboard paint. That way, the kids could be occupied in the kitchen while she prepared supper.
I'm planning on painting the inside of my spice cabinet with magnetic chalkboard paint and buy the magnet spice jars. This is free up so much cabinet space. I can also use chalk to label my spices.

we live in an apartment and so we have limited ability to paint ... but i painted the back of our front door and my hubby and i leave love notes and little reminders on it every day ... because really its the best place to be reminded to take the dry cleaning and tell someone you love them!
I would have never thought to apply it to something smaller like the bench. I'm not ready for a wall, either, but a little piece of furniture I could definitely do!
I like the dinning room one- but you have a very valid point (chalk dust can get messy).
oooh, i love! too bad the paint is so expensive....it's SO pretty.
ps. alyssa, that is the cutest comment ever.
I love the idea of chalkboard paint, but I abhor the idea of chalkdust everywhere. I'm already battling cat fur and toddler crumbs daily...no need to add to that list. But I do love the possibilities the paint offers.
As a kid I wore out several chalkboards. My passion for them is still strong today. I do not mind the chalk dust; I already have two cats.
I just realized a narrow wall in my kitchen can work. I always taught it was impossible to reproduce the bistro chalkboard style in my kitchen. And my husband and I can write each other lovely notes like Alyssa does. Thanks for that idea :)
I found this idea http://lifehacker.com/software/diy/diy-paint+on-chalkboard-calendar-226214.php
and tried it on a wall in my kitchen. I love how it turned out and so does everyone who comes over.
I have horrible images of children with chalk smeared all over them and then they go get on the suede couch...
I love these! Just linked to them on our blog: http://www.goodyblog.com/playing_house/2007/08/is-this-your-cl.html
ooh! for a wall in our homeschool room!
didja know there's magnetic paint out there too? my daughters have it on one wall of their bedroom.
We have an entire wall in the kitchen painted with black chalkboard paint (a quart was $12. and we have some left over - only needed 1 coat) and it looks graphic cool with the white cabinets and white window frames, is loads of fun for our guests who draw pics and funny notes for us, and of course, reminders for appts. and pickups couldn't be more convenient to list. No "fake" menus listed though....that's just a strange comment.
My grandparents have got chalkboard cupboards with a list of what they need from each cupboard. I think it is pretty cool. :)
