Alinea Restaurant

I just added the Alinea Restaurant in Chicago to my foodie dream list. Do you keep one of those? A list of places both elegant and causal that you want to try locally and around the world? What is on your list?

At Alinea there is a 12 and 23-course experimental menu where the food seriously looks like little sculptures created under the direction of the amazing chef Grant Achatz. It would be an evening that would knock my socks off! I believe you have to reserve months in advance but wow... what a place to try. Have any of you lucky readers been there?

Read and see more here.

My husband has. He's a chef. He said it's incredible. But we keep a similar list at our house. The restaurant bucket list :)

Yes, and it is really an amazing experience! My favorite dish was actually a tiny piece of lamb perfectly cooked and nestled in a cup of pine needles. Sounds simple but I still dream about it. And of course there's the famous dish on a vapor-filled pillow that deflates as you eat. They were even nice enough to throw in a few bonus courses, but we were actually so full that we couldn't finish them all. I hope you go someday!

Yes and it was a once in a lifetime date with my husband. Amazing food and the wine pairing was perfect. Completely worth every cent - will never forget it. Hope you can go soon!! :)

This food looks so beautiful, but I'm probably not sophisticated enough to truly enjoy it. Like Jerry Seinfeld said, I'm more of an "eatie" than a "foodie"! On my list are things like the street food vendors in Vietnam, real southern BBQ, a home cooked meal in Italy, as well as restaurants like Chez Panisse, Prune, etc... Not that I wouldn't love to go to this place, if the opportunity arose!

I had to comment because we actually got borrowed the name for our daughter - she is named Alinea! Unfortunately, we've never been, but my husband is a chef and we dream of going one day.

Oh wow. That's just gorgeous. I'm not even a foodie but I think that first photo is simply a work of art! Just stunning.

Best meal of my life! Every single thing was incredible. Save every penny you have and make sure you get to eat there once in your life. You will not regret it. Grant's new book "Life, on the line" is great too. I can't put it down. He is a true artist in every sense.

I have never been, but my good friend Travis was a server there for years. Now he is in NYC, working for Batali at Babbo. Good person to know, right? He used to whip us up the best dinners with loads of wine - all from stuff he learned while at Alinea. I miss those days.
