The Move...

We are moving this weekend, ahh. This week has been pretty much bananas! It will be such a fast transition, I can still hardly believe it. We are landing in the El Dorado Hills / Folsom area as it will be near my husband's work. If you have any tips or suggestions about that area I would love to hear more because I've only been there once. Crossing my fingers for a smooth transition.

See you on the flip side, I have a few posts lined up next week as we get settled.

Have a lovely autumn weekend!

Good luck! And that area is such a great community. I have lots of friends who live there, so please feel free to ping me back if you need some recommendations or a little TLC.

If you have children look into the Sacramento Waldorf School in Fair Oaks. K-12, they have a lovely 17 acre campus on the American River with a working farm and great organic food.

The Folsom Outlet Mall is wonderful, great deals for kids clothes, especially around back to school time. Good luck!

I live in NYC now but grew up in Cameron Park (up the hill from EDH). A couple things: the downtown/Main Street area of Folsom is lovely; in particular, Rainbow Bridge Jewelers is a MUST MUST MUST - superstar staff, diverse collection, wonderful quality. And they've been there forever so you're supporting a very local business. Then stay around that area for lunch - you pretty much can't go wrong. Also, Folsom is a bike-rider's paradise so, if you're into that, I believe the (gorgeous) bike trail goes all the way from Folsom to San Francisco.

Head up the hill to Cameron Park for sushi. Some of the best I've had ever (and I live in NYC!) is Kobe Sushi in Burke Junction. It's right along the freeway (exit at Cameron Park Drive and turn right). The rolls are rich and delicious, but it was the sashimi that really wowed us.

Head into downtown Sacramento for the train museum. With kids or without, it's so much fun.

If you want some serious pampering, the Asante Spa in EDH is wonderful.

For wine-tasting, head up to the Apple Hill area (and for apples too!). My favorite is Boeger Winery. Lovely local wines and a gorgeous tasting room/outdoor patio; in the summer, they have jazz outside and you can bring your picnic dinner and buy bottles in the tasting room. A true local experience!

Also, speaking of Apple Hill, Larsen's apple farm and Abel's Apples Acres are the ones to visit. Larsen's for the apples and Abel's for the baked goods and ambience.

I loved growing up there and we still visit my parents regularly - I hope you enjoy! Best of luck!

Ack, how could I forget! You MUST visit downtown Placerville, particularly in the fall. It's just "up from the hill" from you on the 50, towards Tahoe. Main Street is THE place to go during the holidays. And the Hey Day Cafe is delicious. The Bookery is a darling local bookstore on Main Street - a must as well.

Okay, I think I'm done recommending now... 8-)

I have no local tips, but I'm sending good karma your way! It'll be a wonderful landing I'm sure...

Hi, I live in El Dorado (close to Placerville) and work in El Dorado Hills. The town center in EDH holds lots of events but since it's not really my kind of crowd (I'm 28 and not into bedazzled jeans) so I don't really like hanging out in EDH so I'd venture into the historic area of Folsom, check out the American River and in the fall time I like to head to Apple Hill for some yummy treats then up to South Lake Tahoe. Oh, and Shenandoah has tons of wineries that offer some pretty amazing and FREE wine tastings. Can't forget Main Street Placerville. It's very cute. At the end of the street there's a coffee shop that has a tunnel in the back that's cool to check out.
