Books

A few books on my mind.

1. Currently listening to The Power of Habit I'm not that far in but it is very interesting so far. Listening to audiobooks has been a great way for me to fit them in timewise. I listen in the car, running errands, or doing household chores.

2. I am a recovering perfectionist so this book The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown hit home for me in many ways. I would highly recommend this title to anyone, but it is especially great for those who rarely feel 'good enough' on whatever level. It is engaging and very well written. To see Brene's wit and fun personality check out this Ted Talks which (along with the conference I heard her speak at) turned me towards the title. (Crazy thing, this is the first book I have read in entirety on my phone!)

3. Black Beauty - a classic, Mac or I have been reading a chapter to the girls every night.

4. East of Eden - I am taking on this long one. It has been on my list for ages.

Your turn! What are you reading/listening to these days?

Ps. Oh and for the kitchen, I also bought this cookbook and pre-ordered this one. Can't wait to get them in the mail.

Do let us know how the East of Eden turned out for you. It is too on my booklist for ages.

I'm currently reading The Rock and the River by Kekla Magoon now. It's beautifully written about racism, activism, love and family.

Couple of my favourite books as a young girl was The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett and The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit. I hope your girls loved them as much as I did! :)

My heart leaped a bit when I saw EAST OF EDEN! I only read that a few years ago, and rightly so. For any writer and lover of literature, Steinbeck's prose is phenomenal -- as it is sharp and stirring. His words are meant to be savored, so no rush on this one.

Have a great read!

Last month I consumed the Hunger Games trilogy and now I am reading Imagine by Jonah Lehrer. It's about how creativity works. His previous book How We Decide also gives some very interesting insight into how the brain helps us make the choices we do. I will most definitely check out The Gifts of Imperfection as well as the TED Talk. Another cookbook you might enjoy is Laurie David's The Family Dinner.

East of Eden is one of my top 5 favorite books. His writing felt like a warm quilt on a cold evening. Plus i love that he has woven his grandfather and family into the story as a gift to his children.

I'm reading the Tiger's Wife now. I bought The Gifts of Imperfection a while ago, but think I need to crack it open soon.

I remember loving East of Eden when I read it as a teenager. Now, I wonder how much I would like it. I was completely wrapped up in the story at the time, and not all the characters are people you want to have in your head...

Cool post. :) I am currently reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Extremely entertaining, though very long. I read "The Bell Jar" ever summer, and have done so since I was 13 years-old (I'm 31 now).

Great list! I liked to read several books at once, too but never thought about listening to one. I'll have to try that. I'm reading "Steve Jobs", "the Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin and "How not to suffocate your own fool self" by Danielle Evans. I also like to read the classics and Steinbeck is one of my favorites. Happy reading!

Such a cool idea for a regular blog post. I am just starting to blog and so often I battle with what to write or how to channel my thoughts and where I am sourcing inspiration - this is a great format as I always have my head in a book!!!

East of Eden is my favourite classic book of all time. So beautifully written and interesting. I have read it twice but recently bought it on AudioBook on iTunes and really love that i can just listen to it on long car trips or on a plane. Brilliant way to get to "read" longer books.
I hope you enjoy.
