Coney Island by Peter Granser
I've never been to Coney Island but these fantastic photographs by Peter Granser make me want to take the trip out there next week just to take some shots. We'll see how things go... any thoughts, is it worth it?

yes and no. In the summer, I used to go there every couple of weekends just to get out of the city and get some fresh(?) air. However, it's not exactly the romantic place it looks in Peter Granser's photos. Well, not by a long shot. But should you try it? Definitely!
i agree with virginia...though i've never been in the summer. i find it's quite peaceful and almost lonely (think like the movie 'big') during the off-season...thanks for the mention :)
Come on out and visit - don't expect to much - a few rides the beach and boardwalk then you will enjoy it more. Remember it is the birth place of roller coasters - so you must ride the Cyclone. for a great view of all of Coney (most people forget it is 4 miles long) I also suggest not just visiting Astroland and the small part of the boardwalk from Astroland to Stillwell - Coney is much bigger. Its exciting, mysterious and loud a the same time on weekends - I chose to move out here and gave up Tribecca last fall and love it. Stop by Rubys bar & Grill - the oldest bar & grill on the boardwalk and ask for Rubys Host - I can give you a brief history on Rubys. I'm always around somewhere
If you decide to go, don't forget to stop and get pizza at Totonno's on Neptune. Simple and delicious!
Don't build it up, you will be disappointed. But it is good for photos and I need to get back there this summer to take some more.
Go to Coney Island. It's old, decrepit, tacky, lonely, dry and yet romantic. Places like this are dying in the US. There are loud kids from the boroughs there; that's OK, if one can't deal with them one should move back to Iowa. Go for it. Ride the Cyclone. I hope that the "Incredible Two Headed Baby exhibit is still there. Eat a hot dog. Ride the Cyclone again. My best friend calls it the best 3 minutes of mind-blowing therapy you'll ever get. Remember the automatic fortune teller in Big? There used to be one like that if you walked through the areas where the rides are...she was underneath the Wonder Wheel. It's romantic at night. Ride the Cyclone for the third time, like my sister used to do. Go eat Russian food when you're done with the day. Take lots of photos. Have a good time.
I hear they are shutting down coney island so go while you can!! My girlfriend from new york just shared the news. they are keeping the ferris wheel I guess, but the rest is going. :(
