Vintage Illustrations by guest: Jeanie Nelson

Due to an incredible deficiency of room in my apartment, I have (temporarily) disallowed myself to indulge my addicting habit of collecting old books from thrift stores. The few I have hanging around are taking up enough space as it is! The moment we move our little family into a house, I am going to go nuts gathering things for my "collection" and reserve an entire shelving system to store/display them. Here are a few illustrations. Thank you for giving me an excuse to finally scan them!

Lion
: detail of illustration by Roger Duvoisin in "The Happy Lion" by Louise Fatio, 1954

Ice skaters: detail from "Picture Book of Astronomy" by Jerome S Meyer, illustration by Richard Floethe. (see his AMAZING art here)

Hotel de La Truite: detail of illustration by Roger Duvoisin in "The Happy Lion" by Louise Fatio, 1954 (you can actually still by this book)

Flying Fish: From 1925 edition of Webster's Dictionary

Girl with Glasses
: "Spectacles" by Ellen Raskin, 1968

Figures: detail from cover illustration by W. Brouard on Official Guide to the Tower of London, date unknown

Vintage Cowboy wrapping paper (1940's?)

From "Rain and Shine" by Ardra Soule Wavle, illustrated by Ruth Steed, 1942 (my brother, sister, and I all learned to read from this book, there are a few places you can by it online).

Illustrations from NFL ad in 1967 Life Magazine

These are lovely. What a nice collection.

Where in the world did you find that vintage cowboy wrapping paper? It reminds of of a roll of wallpaper my grandmother used to have. I love it!

These are so awesome! I could swear I've seen some of them before (maybe from childhood?)

These are fantastic! I am a huge fan of old books (particularly vintage illustrations) too. I have a closet full of books in boxes that I don't have enough shelf space for. I sell vintage books on Etsy, so I get to enjoy them for a bit even though I can't keep them all...

Those illustrations are some of the best I've seen! What fun to take the pictures out and frame them individually...
