Hanging laundry
While in Indiana I had a fixation of taking photos of hanging laundry. I especially loved the Amish laundry because of the multicolored dresses. I made my husband turn around a few times on country roads and a couple Amish people looked at me in disbelieve when I photographed their laundry, but ... isn't it beautiful?

it's absolutely beautiful. thanks for sharing those! i especially love the one with all the red barns below.
Haha, I'd do the same!
I've been to Amish Country twice and am intrigued with their laundry and took some photos too! I want to go back.
I have never been to Amish country. My first thought was that it was staged for a photoshoot...
I wish my laundry (I hang it) looked like that! Maybe I need to get more dresses :-)
It's so simple and something we take for granted, but it makes a gorgeous picture!
It is beautiful! But, did you feel wrong or embarrassed that you were taking pictures? We were in Amish country in Virginia and I just felt like I as intruding and almost insulting them by taking pictures. Of course no one said anything... it was all in my head.
I love seeing laundry hung out to dry too!
I really enjoy your blog. Thanks for sharing.
By the way, I went to Amish country in Ohio this summer. I saw many of those dresses for sale in shops there and was surprised to see that they were not cotton, but a synthetic blend. Then I thought, maybe this fabric washes and dries easier. But it would be sweaty to work in!
i love how high that one is with the red barn...i thought it was a photo shoot at first
i love these! amish country is so peaceful- we have been to amish areas in PA. even these photos are calming!
Yes it is! I thought these photos were staged for some sort of art piece or ad. How fun to stumble upon something so ordinarily beautiful!
,clothes lines are the perfect showcase for all things beautiful, i love to see all my daughters floral dresses, my sons football jerseys ...all in a row.....theres nothing more beautiful. theres something really surreal about your photos and the fact thery are real makes them extraordinarily beautiful ...really love this post ,thanks
ha ha, totally! these are fantastic snaps!!! such beautiful color, lines, and movement. lovely!
Very pretty. I actually thought the first and last photos were part of an art installation or something!
I agree with everyone ^^^ :)
So lovely and peaceful, wonderful photos!
I saw lots of it in Italy. Mostly undies. Love these Amish dresses.
Heeeey these are fun! :)
Quite pretty, good eye!
So lovely! I don't have a place to hang my laundry anymore and when I did, it never looked that neat and pretty. Oh, well.
Absolutely amazing shots!
Beautiful photos. I like to find the beauty in the ordinary so I'm often getting funny looks for photographic something along a roadside.
I remember when my Mom and I were in Italy several summers ago we took pictures of the laundry hanging up on clotheslines outside all the houses. It's definitely the kind of photo you can only capture from traveling abroad :)
Beautiful photographs. They are art pieces.
Hanging laundry has made the news around here. McMansion neighborhoods have forbid it and some of the residents are angry...
I wish I could get my laundry line to look like that. perfect shots. Good work!
This is stunning! Love the vivid colours against the blue sky.
It reminds me of Naples, with the bright colours too!
Wheew.
Breathtaking, just breathtaking. Weirdly poignant images--these should be hanging in some gallery (or at least on your wall).
I've never seen anything like this! I love laundry and seeing how people hang their laundry, this is just aaaaa-mazing!
So worth the drive back! Simple, sweet and so so pretty.
Rachel, that second picture makes me smile so much, and I just don't know why! IT has so much character!! :) Beautiful!
So lovely! I love the charming barns and houses, too.
That first picture is amazing. so good!
Wow! Great pictures!!
Beautiful photos! I'm so glad that you had enough sense to grab the camera when you were driving through. It's easy to look past something so ordinary.
I love these!!!
National geographic watch out. These are great shots. You need to do a Laundry photo album
I love it!
these are fantastic photos! i especially like the last one. i would seriously hang it in my house.
charming! i've never been to amish country, this is all very interesting.
I get it! I love the look of multi colored clothes hanging out on the line. You're right the mix of hues on the dresses is especially wonderful. Beautiful pictures. Somehow the whole thing reminds me that I need to slow down a little and enjoy life more completely.
Hmmm, and I thought Amish people only wore black and white...
awesome. i love it.
This looks set up! You'd never see this kind of scene in England. This is the best image on a blog I've seen in ages - nice change from Domino magazine!
Amazing, really! It looks like some sort of Art Installation.
those photos are amazing. i love how beautiful they are. and i love your site too. i keep coming back. tx!
These are hands down the best photos I've seen in a long time! Wow.
Beautiful!
All the colors... and all the dresses look like it has the same shape, the same model. It doesn't look like a real laundry.
absolutely beautiful! Totally worth the stares! :)
