Hanging laundry

Hanging laundry

While in Indiana I had a fixation of taking photos of hanging laundry. I especially loved the Amish laundry because of the multicolored dresses. I made my husband turn around a few times on country roads and a couple Amish people looked at me in disbelieve when I photographed their laundry, but ... isn't it beautiful?

I have never been to Amish country. My first thought was that it was staged for a photoshoot...
I wish my laundry (I hang it) looked like that! Maybe I need to get more dresses :-)

It's so simple and something we take for granted, but it makes a gorgeous picture!

It is beautiful! But, did you feel wrong or embarrassed that you were taking pictures? We were in Amish country in Virginia and I just felt like I as intruding and almost insulting them by taking pictures. Of course no one said anything... it was all in my head.

I love seeing laundry hung out to dry too!
I really enjoy your blog. Thanks for sharing.

By the way, I went to Amish country in Ohio this summer. I saw many of those dresses for sale in shops there and was surprised to see that they were not cotton, but a synthetic blend. Then I thought, maybe this fabric washes and dries easier. But it would be sweaty to work in!

Yes it is! I thought these photos were staged for some sort of art piece or ad. How fun to stumble upon something so ordinarily beautiful!

So lovely! I don't have a place to hang my laundry anymore and when I did, it never looked that neat and pretty. Oh, well.

Beautiful photos. I like to find the beauty in the ordinary so I'm often getting funny looks for photographic something along a roadside.

I remember when my Mom and I were in Italy several summers ago we took pictures of the laundry hanging up on clotheslines outside all the houses. It's definitely the kind of photo you can only capture from traveling abroad :)

Beautiful photographs. They are art pieces.

Hanging laundry has made the news around here. McMansion neighborhoods have forbid it and some of the residents are angry...

Wheew.

Breathtaking, just breathtaking. Weirdly poignant images--these should be hanging in some gallery (or at least on your wall).

I get it! I love the look of multi colored clothes hanging out on the line. You're right the mix of hues on the dresses is especially wonderful. Beautiful pictures. Somehow the whole thing reminds me that I need to slow down a little and enjoy life more completely.

Beautiful!
All the colors... and all the dresses look like it has the same shape, the same model. It doesn't look like a real laundry.
