The box

Yahoo, my first organic produce box arrived today, and it made me giddy like a school-girl when I opened it up. I nabbed a few shots with my phone and then the epiphany came (probably because my daughter asked why on earth I was taking snaps of vegetables) that I may just be a 'major' produce nerd! This Northern California produce is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Anyone get super excited about pretty fruit and vegetables?

I live in Austin and we get our produce delivered once a month from Farmhouse Delivery. Like you, I get super-excited to open the box. My husband looks at me like I am crazy because I SMELL everything!

So jealous! Is that an acorn squash I spy?

(And yes, I get ridiculously excited too—I love walking through the greenmarket and touching everything!)

Whoa! I can see why you photographed it. So pretty!

My brother-in-law used to live in CA and he said the thing he misses the most is the fruit.

Yes! And your daughter will learn than it's so fun to take photos of fruits & vegetables. Don't get me started on the awesomeness of photographing farmers markets! I recently got an organic farm delivery, too, and I'm loving it. It really forces you to eat better and cook what's in season. I did Farm Fresh to You which is also in NoCal. P.S. I'm a little biased but I really do think that CA has the best produce in the world :)

This is the best thing about CA. We have a delivery service like this in Visalia as well. It's $25 for local, in season produce to your door...amazing.

that looks like a delicata squash in the back. I had one for the first time the other week - they are fantastic! I roasted mine up in the skins with some oil & salt and then found the skins were also edible so just ate the whole thing! yum!!

I also found this recipe for them that looks terrific:

By the way, I wasn't sure what to do with the Rhubarb. So I decided to juice it, leaves and all. I got so sick. Lesson learned....don't eat the leaves. Yikes!

I get really excited about fresh produce too! Farmer's markets are my highlight whenever we take a trip somewhere and I always come home with photos of some wonderful fruit or veggie I've found or tasted that we might not get at home...

Since I live in the south west corner of Australia, we are lucky to get a lot of beautiful freshly grown fruit and veg so I still take photos of the ones at home too...
