Frozen Records

Did you know that they can actually make frozen records? I had no idea this was possible, but isn't the idea very cool? They take a normal record and make a ice mold out of it, then it plays unique sound only for a very short time, up to around 10 minutes. Talk about living and experiencing something original in real time. By Austrian artist Claudia Märzendorfer, check out her frozen chairs too - stunning. (Thanks Mac via gizmodo)

That is crazy! Do you think the melting record damages the player at all? Can't imagine it emerges entirely unscathed as they're pretty particular little machines to begin with...

hmm. someone has a lot of free time on their hands. the part that i don't really understand is the person just sitting there watching the record play (melt) seems like a very tedious art form. cool though. thanks!

so cool! I was wondering the same thing about the melting damaging the player - it probably does a bit. However, the art is cool enough that it's worth it once or twice.

How fascinating. I wonder what they used to make a mold? Would good ol' fashioned plaster of Paris have made a detailed enough mold to produce the music? Soooo cool. Literally, I guess. :)
