Music Monday on a Wednesday...

Long time no check in, I hope you readers are doing well. This video and song called Follow the Sun by Xavier Rudd brought a smile to my face and inspired me and hope it does the same for you. Lately I am working on taking things day by day and these lyrics really resonated with me. After seeing it I want to take the littles on a spontaneous trip to the beach!

Music Monday on a Tuesday : Cover Love Mix

Hope you had a nice weekend, I've been listening to some great cover songs all about love in its various forms. Enjoy this Cover Love 2013 mix, listen to it over here. Dang, it seems like all I use is Spotify these days, what about you?

Music Monday : Lia Ices

I've been playing the song Love is Won by Lia Ices on repeat. If you are a Feist and Julia Stone fan you will really enjoy it. Hope you had a nice weekend and happy Music Monday.

Music Monday : Music for Yoga

My favorite Yoga classes are when they play modern music. There is definitely room and I also enjoy songs without words, but I am energized when doing crazy long planks and hearing bands like Yeasayer playing "Fingers Never Blead" in the background. Don't tell my Yoga instructors but every once in a while when there is an especially rad song playing that is unfamiliar to me, I may pull out of a pose, take a small water break, and 'Shazam'. Totally against the whole point of being in the moment with a solid Yoga practice hehe -- I've really got to stop that.

Here are ten of my favorite Yoga songs to add to your list. Or if you just want to listen to this while chilling in the kitchen and making dinner one night or something else that works too.

Shout out your favorite yoga tunes or energizing jams.

Music Monday : Alt J

First off, a big thanks to Eva for filling in for me last week while we were in San Francisco. Her posts were rad, huh? Can't wait to hear about her European adventures.

Up for Music Monday today is a song called Something Good by Alt J which is quite stunning. I'm currently listening to their album now as I type this and am loving what I hear. As for the visuals in the video, my husband lived in Spain for a few years back in the day, so we've had some interesting discussions about matadors and the running of the bulls and this clip intrigued me. Happy Music Monday.

Music Monday : The Dø

I'm thrilled that Eva from Sycamore Street Press is filling in for me while we are in San Francisco this week. She is super talented and has such a great eye -- you've seen the fabulous letterpress goods by Sycamore Street Press, right? Eva and her family is also traveling around Europe this week, lucky! Thanks so much Eva.

At the moment, we are actually visiting Helsinki. Because of that, I decided to dedicate my posts this week to Finnish design. And since today is Monday, I thought I’d start off with a little music from the Finnish/French indie pop duo, The Dø. My husband is getting a little sick of me playing their song, Too Insistent (from their album Both Ways Open Jaws), on repeat. I can’t help it, though. It’s just so good! You can watch and listen below:

Music Monday : Workout Music

Music Monday, a little late ...

Lately I've been hopping on the treadmill more and although I prefer a good class or going outside, sometimes the only way I can sneak in a cardio moment is when the little one is napping. What makes the treadmill more exciting for me is mixing it up with fresh workout music. Here is what I'm listening to lately. I call it 'T- 30' (Treadmill for 30) but it's actually 33 minutes because I always like to throw in a good cool down song at the end and for this mix it's Ratatat that cues me up to take it slow. What is on your workout playlist mix? I'm all ears.

Music Monday : Still Corners

Today I'm getting back into the swing of things after our quick weekend road trip. Here is a song I'm really enjoying called Fireflies by Still Corners... Hope you are having a nice Monday!

Turntable Kitchen

Do you know about the site Turntable Kitchen? Husband and wife duo Kasey and Matthew Hickey pair together food and music in the best of ways, I'm such a fan. Want a well-curated playlist to enjoy while preparing or eating a delicious homemade breakfast? Check out this post they've got you covered with recipes, tracks and resources. They've also got several other recipes to try and music to listen on their site that could leave any music loving foodie happy for hours.

Kasey and I briefly met at the San Francisco Kinfolk dinner and she radiated this positive vibe that was down right contagious. She kindly sent me one of their pairing boxes and it was such a blast to receive special ingredients, wonderfully photographed recipe cards, and a well-crafted music selection boxed up on my doorstep. Their clever pairing boxes change every month with seasonal ingredients and would be the perfect gift idea for food and music loving friends. Pop by their site when you get a moment, I think you'll really enjoy it. I also find it remarkable that they both have day jobs and still run their site! Wow.

Music Monday : Kishi Bashi

Kishi Bashi has it going on. K Ishibashi's previously toured with Montreal and Regina so he is no stranger to putting on a good show. His sound is totally perfect to begin a Monday with an upbeat positive vibe. I can't decide which track to share with you so I'm sharing two. Have a listen. It is unique stuff and I'm really liking it this morning. What about you, thoughts?

Music Monday : Cat Power

We are currently in Tahoe taking a pause and soaking in the great outdoors. I came across a new music gem and wanted to bring you a little Music Monday on a Wednesday! Cat Power aka Chan Marshall dropped her album 'Sun' yesterday and I am pumped. I'm a fan of her music and can't wait to listen to it all. I may pop up on Instagram and Pinterest (@blackeiffel) more than here for the next few days. Hope you are having a nice week.

Music Monday : Other Lives

My daughter has the day off from school today so we've been out having fun and I'm getting a late start on the computer. I want to share this really great band that my brother Jake led me to called Other Lives. He told me to think of Bon Iver / Fleet Foxes meets Radiohead and he is right on point. I am really loving their sound. Happy Music Monday.

*Download their latest album here or listen to it on Spotify.

Music Monday : Cass McCombs

I came across this song while following my cool uncle Steve's Spotify feed (you're on Spotify, right?) When I think of him, I think of all of the times I would go over to their house and he was often playing something really cool or interesting on his record player letting the sound waft and bounce off the walls throughout their home.

His top track was this song by Cass McCombs and seriously I listened to it like 10 times over the weekend, it's that good. A inspirational throw back to the 70s for sure, but with a fresh edge. Hope you enjoy and are having a nice Monday.

ps. I'm starting to upload all Music Monday selections to a Spotify Playlist. If you want to hear them that way (super eclectic list when put together, but still good stuff).

Music Monday : Washed Out

This fairly recently released video for the song "A Dedication" by Washed Out is magically beautiful. Have a watch/listen.

ps. I love going through car washes too. What about you?

Music Monday : Taken By Trees

If you are a fan of Taken by Trees (aka Victoria Bergsman) and dreaming of a trip to Hawaii like me, this Music Monday and this video called 'Dreams' is for you. (This single drops officially tomorrow.) It was filmed on Oahu's North Shore by Amanda Marsalis and is quite lovely. Oh paradise, take me there now! At least we can go there temporarily with this song and video.

Remember the last post/clip of Taken by Trees from a few summers ago? Yes, I still really love that song too. Oh, and Victoria's voice may be familiar to you because it is in this catchy song.)

Music Monday : James Vincent McMorrow

This song called, "Higher Love" covered by James Vincent McMorrow I've been playing on repeat lately. James other stuff is great too - he has a very chill vibe. First time I heard this track it sounded so familiar and then I finally put two and two together and realized it was originally by Steve Winwood that my parents blasted all the time growing up in the 80s and 90s. Hope you had a nice weekend and happy Music Monday.

Music Monday on a Wednesday : Sunday Girl

My sister sent over this remixed track called Love U More by Sunday Girl remixed by RAC and I instantly liked it. So hip hip... here is to Music Monday on a Wednesday! What is on your musical radar, what are you playing on repeat? Favorite summer tunes - maybe this one, ha? Hit up the comments I would love to hear about what makes you want to get up and dance or unwind.

Music Monday : Beirut

The quick coastal getaway we had this weekend led me to select this new video by Beirut of The Rip Tide (directed by Houmam Abdallah) for Music Monday today. It is a nice one to watch, wait for the second half -- it is magical. The director mentioned it was inspired by the artists Dali, Seurat and Turner. A visual of where "art and nature merge." Hope you had a nice weekend.

Music Monday : We Were Evergreen

I hope you had a nice weekend. We have family in town so I'm spending more time offline than on but wanted to find some fresh tunes for you all for Music Monday. This morning I came across We Were Evergreen and instantly liked them. They are French, quirky, cool and have a fun alternative sound. Love the variety of the ukulele and xylophone in the mix, at least I think that is what he they are playing... Enjoy! Hope your week is off to a great start.

Music Monday : Jake Bugg

Have you heard of the British singer songwriter Jake Bugg? I came across his bluesy soul rock music and instantly fell in love with his sound. He's only 18 wowsa, what a talent! Check out this video and song "Lightning Bolt" and tell me what you think -- I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm a instant fan and believe he'll be one to keep our eyes and ears on for sure. Also check out this video or this one too.
