Farmer's Market Squash

Today's loot from the farmer's market. I had no idea how many types of squash there are until today. I saw tons of French varieties, heirlooms and look forward to trying out a whole new world of flavors. Here are the few I picked up...

- Dark Green : Buttercup squash
- Orange : Kabocha squash ( it grows in a green shade too)
- Beige : Butternut squash

What is your favorite squash?

Tree photographs

I spotted this collection of tree photographs by South Korean photographer Myoung Ho Lee and it took my breath away this morning. The series is a collection of various solitary trees shot against a white backdrop standing out in nature. Go see the whole exhibition here. Stunning.

Week no. 17

1. Goodness gracious, the continual stream of beautiful photographs from Peggy Wong constantly blows my mind, these are of the Met.
2. Yummy recipe to try from Martha.
3. I bought a lemon tree to keep inside, but now need to learn good care tips.
4. Came across the work of Natasha Mead - a gorgeous DIY Fashion App called Milk will be coming to the iPad soon. (via Design Milk)

Have a fantastic last week of April weekend. See you Monday.

Looking down from Space...

Hello. I hope you had a nice weekend and are having a great week. I'm still getting back into the groove after a long break and all that comes with that. Aerial photography is some of my favorite, and from space, could it get any better? These unbelievable photos by AndrĂ© Kuipers (ESA/NASA) are jaw-dropping, I'm in awe. Mac and I were just talking about Astronauts and how surreal it would be to look down at earth and see such amazing things like this!

Instagram Series: Life with SMS - The Panic Room

This Instagram series of Life with SMS by Ryan Marshall (@thepanicroom) from Pacing the Panic Room is incredibly touching, thought provoking and one of the loveliest real life photographed series I have ever seen. It showcases in the most serene way the daily struggles of their son battling SMS. It stopped me in my tracks. I was pleased to see such genuinity and real life depth on Instagram. The way their family faces difficult life challenges with courage and beauty is inspiring beyond measure.

I breifly met Ryan and Cole at Alt in passing and was equally touched by what an amazing and courageous couple they are in real life.

Have a lovely weekend!

Kathryn said something that stood out to me at Alt last month that I am working on implementing in my life. "To build in little daily luxuries in your life." The last few weeks I have done this, it has been very rewarding. It only takes a few minutes each day to try something new and it is a simple act that is bringing me joy. From checking out the new buds on a tree in our yard, to picking up some succulents and even trying avocados in my egg scramble. I share some discoveries on my Instagram but half the time I like to soak it in sans a lens.

What about you? Do you find daily satisfaction in a little luxury? Try something new this weekend and tell me about it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Paul Octavious

Being a big fan of Paul Octavious and his work, I was delighted to arrive home to this Kite Hill photo that came in the mail that I ordered a few weeks ago. I enjoy his Love Stories print too. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Unexpected Surprises

Photographer and sculptor Scarlett Hooft Graafland's work is breathtaking! I love that she shares unique photographs of places around the world including lava fields in Iceland and salt flats in Bolivia with a beautiful sculptural twist. Currently her work is exhibiting at the Huis Marsielle in Amsterdam and she shared a quote (included in the photo above) about making great ideas happen that especially resonated with me.

Little Darlings

I love Sharon Montrose's animal photography and was delighted to see that she did a new series of close-up baby animals. I briefly showed these to little India and she immediately coohed and oohed in glee... She especially loved this one. All of them are so cute! Which one is your favorite? See them all here.

Peggy Wong Photography

Pretty much everything that the talented Peggy Wong does amazes me. She is a brilliant and experienced designer, art director, photographer and even has her own product line which is very beautiful. When she started showcasing her photos from her European trip on her blog over the last few months, I felt as if I could instantly transport myself into each shot to enjoy the wonders of traveling vicariously through her work.

Want to take your own mock vacation and see some other beautiful spaces? Check out her recently launched professional photography website where her passion for the medium definitely shines through. Also see her other amazing work here.

The New Gypsies by Iain McKell

The New Gypsies series of photographs by London based photographer Iain McKell are hauntingly fascinating. Iain spent the last ten years photographing various travelers from all walks of life who choose to seek out alternatives to western capitalist society by living simple and close to nature. The work is quite extraordinary. He will be showing in the Clic Gallery in NYC from August 29 - October 2 and also has a book out.

Dancing in the Flowers...

Welcoming in summer today with these photos that make me smile. Who wouldn't want to dance in tons of tulips with brightly colored clothes and tutus on? (Hehe.)

I couldn't help but pull off the side of the road and take a shot of this vibrant rainbow while driving the other day. They are so magical!
